Gavin Koester is a wildlife photographer and filmmaker based in Boulder, Colorado, known for his creative eye and deep-rooted passion for the natural world.

From a young age, Gavin was drawn to nature documentaries, captivated not just by wildlife, but by the art and emotion behind visual storytelling. That passion evolved into a career shaped by early mentorship under National Geographic photographer and Emmy-nominated director Keith Ladzinski, as well as National Geographic filmmaker Tommy Joyce. During this time, Gavin gained valuable experience working as an assistant camera (AC), production assistant, editor and cinematographer—learning the intricacies of filmmaking from the ground up while sharpening his technical and creative skills on set.

With a background in Environmental Studies, Gavin combines a scientific lens with a strong sense of visual storytelling. His work spans continents and ecosystems, capturing the essence of wildlife both above and below the surface. Whether filming the intensity of a predator’s hunt or the quiet grace of an underwater scene, he brings a cinematic style and emotional depth to every frame.
